The Chair as Sculpture/That Sculpture is a Chair

On Saturday, July 28,  AWE Gallery presents a one-day exhibit  of six of Paul Didier’s newest pieces of furniture.  Never before exhibited, Didier’s work is one-of-a-kind birchwood and oak chairs.  Their most captivating features are their naturally compressed arching curves.  They are assembled with the finest joinery.

This is truly “Visionary Art.”  The vision of the very first chair in this collection appeared to Paul, almost fully realized, in a dream. He sketched it perfectly from memory the next day, and it became the foundation of his enchanting artform.

Meet the artist and enjoy his work from noon to 5:00pm  at the gallery.

Complementing Paul’s work is “THREE/3,” the third in a series of encaustic paintings at the gallery.

Born in Belgium, Paul Didier learned to paint at any early age and was selling professionally before he finished high school. He moved to the Bay Area while he was still in his teens, graduated from The Academy of Art College (now University) and was active in competitive shows throughout the US. Some of his work is in the Crocker Museum collection in Sacramento. Paul eventually branched out into freelance design for Don Conner Mobiles, where he designed and hand-crafted whimsical wire sculptures and portable fountains. To his resume he has added chapters as a gallery owner on Union Street, a graphic and layout artist for several publishers and a design consultant to the residential construction industry, specializing in built-in functional furniture and space-saving storage devices.

Torch Paintings by Eileen Goldenberg

JUNE 16 – JULY 1

Artist Reception is Saturday June 16 from Noon – 5:00 PM.

Eileen P. Goldenberg uses a welding torch to create her paintings that use tempered beeswax as the medium. Because the flame is so hot the artist must be very careful and focused.

Eileen’s work is minimal, abstract, and full of subtle detail and complexity. Thousands of tiny orbs of wax, at first seem to be identical, but like humans, turn out to be slightly different.

Color and translucency bring a richness and mystery to the work and add emotion. When seen in person these paintings are compelling and fascinating.

The Show may be viewed at A Woman’s Eye Gallery, 678 Portola Dr (next to the Purple Church).  Gallery Hours are Saturday and Sunday, noon – 5:00 PM and by appointment.  Eileen is available for interviews at 415-753-1233.  Please see Eileen’s work and bio at her website:  http://www.eileenpgoldenberg.com/

encaustic – many forms

Encasutic Painting by Lisa Meyer-Kairos

Come see Lisa Meyer-Kairos’ enchanting and intriguing show May 5 through June 10 and meet  her at the reception, May 5 – Noon to 5:00pm.

Sunday, May 13-at 2:00 PM Poets Presentation.

Decentralized imagery, suspended in layers of transparent beeswax, creates a sense of floating space. Instead of being about a specific moment in time, these paintings are about repetitive perception and accumulation of memory; this accumulation generates these polyoptic (Multiple Seeing) landscapes.

On June 16, Eileen P. Goldenberg will present a solo show of encaustic work and in July, THREE/3 will complete the series.

The Gallery is open weekends from Noon to 5:00pm.  Free parking behind the purple church.  A Woman’s Eye Gallery specializes in the art of women artists and features new exhibits frequently.

stalls along the 15,000 winding narrow streets of Fes will enthrall you. The blue shutters and elaborately decorated doorways of Chefachaouen are as mesmerizing as the centuries old hashish farms nearby.

You will feel like you have traveled Moroccan stoned paved streets, polished by the thousands of feet that have trodden throughout the medinas for centuries. Come meet the photographers, taste and see the rich culture of Morocco.

Poetry, Music & Art Reception

Saturday March 3, from 1:00 – 4:00pm

Special program at 2:00 pm featuring Kit Kennedy and Susan Gangel reading from their latest poetry collaboration “Constellations” and a solo flute performance by Chloe Scott

Meet Pauline Crowther Scott and  Susan Black on MARCH 3.  A Woman’s Eye Gallery Annex, 678 Portola Dr. San Francisco.  Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday from noon until 5:00 PM and by appointment 415-265-8237.

Take an idea, a subject, and explore and extend it as far as possible, into multiple works.  That artistic tradition is important to painters Pauline Crowther Scott and Susan Black.

Why?  Because there’s more than one way to look at anything – because each image seems to inspire another – and because it’s fun and satisfying.  Because the more one looks – at anything – the more one sees.  And the more one wants to paint!

In acrylics, color pencil, watercolor and pastel, Scott and Black present variations on some of their favorite themes.  From gardens to abstract patterns, horizons to hearts – they play with these ideas in all their depth and breadth, diversity and simplicity.

Pauline Crowther Scott’s recent series of works on paper is inspired by the leaves and flowers in her garden and nearby.  She uses a mixed-media and layered technique starting with a background wash of acrylics, followed by a stenciled layer, and finishes this off with color pencils to draw in the leaves and other motifs.

Susan Black’s new abstract paintings and drawings in watercolor, in pastel and in colored pencil focus on the inner landscape of the heart and the outer landscape of the horizon.

October Guest Artist – Ladan Alavi

The First of October marks the debut appearance of this month’s guest artist, Ladan Alavi.   (Artist reception is Saturday October 8).

Ladan has traveled the world gathering material for her work along the way.  She says she presents her paintings with both old and new impressionism.  Most importantly, Ladan stresses, she wishes to express the unlimited unconditional love that we can feel and be thankful for.

View her work at our gallery from October 1 through October 30, and join Ms. Alavi at her reception on Saturday, October 8.  She will be at AWE Gallery from noon to 5:00pm that day.

Ms. Alavi is pleased to announce that proceeds from sales of her work will benefit the Maria Montessori School of the Golden Gate.  The preschool is located at 62 Lenox Way, San Francisco, 94127.
