On Saturday, July 28, AWE Gallery presents a one-day exhibit of six of Paul Didier’s newest pieces of furniture.  Never before exhibited, Didier’s work is one-of-a-kind birchwood and oak chairs. Their most captivating features are their naturally compressed arching curves. They are assembled with the finest joinery.
This is truly “Visionary Art.” The vision of the very first chair in this collection appeared to Paul, almost fully realized, in a dream. He sketched it perfectly from memory the next day, and it became the foundation of his enchanting artform.
Meet the artist and enjoy his work from noon to 5:00pm at the gallery.
Complementing Paul’s work is “THREE/3,†the third in a series of encaustic paintings at the gallery.
Born in Belgium, Paul Didier learned to paint at any early age and was selling professionally before he finished high school. He moved to the Bay Area while he was still in his teens, graduated from The Academy of Art College (now University) and was active in competitive shows throughout the US. Some of his work is in the Crocker Museum collection in Sacramento. Paul eventually branched out into freelance design for Don Conner Mobiles, where he designed and hand-crafted whimsical wire sculptures and portable fountains. To his resume he has added chapters as a gallery owner on Union Street, a graphic and layout artist for several publishers and a design consultant to the residential construction industry, specializing in built-in functional furniture and space-saving storage devices.
